Middle C Productions believes that the management of attendance, practice and payments should be clear and concise; this way we can all be on the same page, know what to expect, and thoroughly enjoy the programs :) Practice Times at Home: Private Student Requirements: Most private students are averaging a fantastic 100 minutes a week on their instruments. We need to make progress, and a regular commitment to your practice makes for both great results and a sheer joy of learning. Students who put the amount of time required in at home arrive looking enthusiastic and ready to play. Parents, for younger ones, you may need to sit in the room with your child at home during practice to check that they are able to read and follow the assignment in their binder as well as to see that they are in fact practicing assigned work and not just performing a lovely concert of things that they have learned in previous weeks. As a child I used to play for hours each week and show up at lessons not knowing a note. It dawned on me one day that I needed to hammer out the assignment; it does not magically play itself! Very young students should plan to play for 5 to 10 minutes a session at home 3 to 5 times a week, older students 5 times a week for 15 or 20 minutes. It's helpful to have a pencil near the piano and a timer to encourage practice times. Did you know that if the piano is in a popular area in the home they will play it much more often ? (Keeping it in the gloomy basement is never a good idea :) We certainly have a very good reputation here at the studio, so make sure you work hard and practice a lot! :) Group Lesson Requirements: Basically, if your assignment is to learn a certain number of guitar chords or a song, practice until you've got it! We can only move forward as a group, and we have a set curriculum to achieve in 12 weeks, so do your part and come prepared and ready. If you miss a group lesson, it may be possible on occasion to do a make-up if there is space in another group and it is the same curriculum week and we know well in advance you will be absent. Missed Lessons: MiddleCProductions requires 24 hours notice of your cancellation prior to your scheduled lesson in order to schedule a future make-up lesson, and we limit make-up lessons to a maximum of 2 per term. You will find the majority of studios and conservatories do not make up lessons at all, but we understand that on occasion there are unexpected situations that require a make-up. Your scheduled spot exists solely for you. If you need to re-schedule a lesson, keep in mind we are only open on weekdays and rarely on a Friday. Requesting to re-schedule because you have another event or a conflict, unfortunately does not meet the criteria for a make up lesson. There are over 45 students a week coming to the studio; therefore there is simply no room to re-schedule if regular conflicts arise. Out of town and know ahead of time? We can re-schedule you. Home from school that day due to illness? If we know that morning we can re-schedule you. No Shows and last minute cancellations: In the case of a "no show" or last minute cancellation (less than 24 hours notice) no make up will be given; this is an industry standard that you will find in all studios and conservatories. Extenuating Circumstances: Lessons will be made up at the discretion of the teacher Inclement Weather: During the winter months we understand that weather may create driving issues and we do take that into consideration when choosing to stay open or closed for the day. If RCMP are suggesting to stay off the roads, then the studio is closed and each student will receive a call/email and confirmation of the cancellation. This lesson will not be rescheduled. If the studio is open, lessons will continue per the norm and those lessons missed by the client will be considered absent and will not be made up. Teacher Cancellations: Any lessons cancelled by your teacher will be rescheduled at a suitable time for you. Fees: Fees paid by cheque are to be made payable to Andrea Ritcey and are due post dated for all three terms dropped off in September, or etransfer on day of term or before Withdrawal from program: If a student registers for a full term, it is assumed that the student will complete the term. If the term is not completed, due to an illness, tuition will be refunded only in the case of protracted illness with a medical certificate. Exceptional circumstances may be brought to the attention of the teacher and the Administration Office for consideration. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding : )
